The Office of the Secretary of State files oaths for elected officials and persons appointed by the Governor, as well as issues their commissions on behalf of the Governor. Records are kept of the appointment date, the commission date, and the expiration date of board members.
The Secretary of State publicizes a list of expired terms of state boards and commissions on a semiannual basis. The Secretary of State’s Office maintains databases of information regarding the current composition of these boards and commissions as received from those boards and commissions and from the authorities responsible for appointing members. Pursuant to S.C. Code §1-1-1310, each state board and commission must send written notification to the Secretary of State’s Office of any appointment, election, resignation, or vacancy in its membership. Information regarding current membership of a state board or commission is available by request.
The Secretary of State’s Office is also the record-keeping agency for all Ratified Acts, Executive Orders, and Resolutions.
